Resin Driveways in Kettering – A Clean, Weed-Free Drive Built on a Proper Base
Resin Driveways in Kettering with sourced prices published up front and honest base advice. Free survey with colour samples on site. Call for a quote.
If your tarmac has cracked, your block paving has sunk or the gravel is migrating onto the pavement, you are probably wondering whether resin can simply go over the top. At Eco Resin Driveways we install resin driveways across Kettering and North Northamptonshire, and we will tell you straight whether your existing surface can stay or has to come out. Call 01536 580137 and we will arrange a free site survey, with colour samples laid against your own frontage.
What Will It Cost? Real Figures, Named Sources
Sources disagree on price, so we show them side by side rather than pick the friendliest number.
- Resin bound in Kettering, all in (dig-out, base, edging, surface and clear-up): £150–£220 per m² (Rutland Driveways, October 2026).
- A typical 30–50 m² Kettering drive: roughly £4,500–£11,000 for resin bound (Rutland Driveways, October 2026).
- A Kettering firm’s listed rate for resin or tarmac: £100–£130 per m² (Divine Driveways Kettering, 2026).
- National average: £60–£95 per m², with a 60 m² drive usually £3,500–£5,500 and taking 2–5 days (MyJobQuote, updated 6 October 2026).
The gaps are partly down to what is included. Installers’ prices for the same job can vary by 20–30% in the same area (MyBuilder, 2026). A low figure often means a thin base or no edging. Ask every installer to itemise what goes under the resin, and we will do the same for you after the survey.
Why the Base Matters More Than the Surface
Resin is only as good as what it sits on. A cracked, sunken or poorly compacted base will telegraph through the surface within a few winters, however good the stone and resin are.
Ground around Kettering runs from ironstone to clay, and new-build plots are often compacted subsoil under thin topsoil (Rutland Driveways, October 2026). That affects how deep we dig and how we build up the sub-base. Where a failing base has to be dug out and replaced, expect it to add £50–£80 per m² (BestBuilders, updated 22 August 2026). Edging, which holds the whole drive in, runs at £30–£60 per linear metre (BestBuilders, updated 22 August 2026).
We would rather tell you that at the survey than have you find out when the crack returns.
Can Resin Be Laid Over My Existing Tarmac or Concrete?
Sometimes. If the tarmac or concrete is sound, level and free-draining where it needs to be, an overlay can work. If it is cracked, heaving or breaking up, the base has to go. Resin bound is a thin surface, so it cannot bridge movement underneath.
At the survey we check for flexing, drainage, edge condition and tree-root damage. Sunken block paving almost always needs lifting and re-laying the sub-base. Sometimes the honest answer is that a cheaper repair will do, and we will say so.
Our Specialist Services
Every drive is different, so each type of work has its own page:
- Resin Bound Driveways – stone and resin mixed and trowelled into a smooth, even surface, the usual choice for a front drive.
- Resin Bonded – resin spread on the base with stone scattered over the top, giving a textured finish.
- Permeable Driveways – how the build-up lets water drain through and keeps your project on the right side of the planning rules.
- Repairs & Cleaning – for an existing resin drive that has stained, split or lost stone.
- Commercial – car parks, access roads and forecourts.
What Is the Difference Between Resin Bound and Resin Bonded?
Resin bound mixes the stone and resin together before laying, producing a smooth, porous surface with no loose stone. Resin bonded spreads resin onto the base and scatters stone on top, leaving a rougher finish where some stones can work loose. For most homes, bound is the better fit, but the two child pages cover the trade-offs in full.
Do I Need Planning Permission?
Usually not, provided the surface is permeable or drains to a lawn or border. No planning permission is needed for a new or replacement driveway of any size using permeable surfacing, or draining to a lawn or border (Planning Portal, 2026). Laying more than 5 m² of impermeable surface in a front garden that drains to the road does need permission (Planning Portal, 2026).
We build front drives so water drains through, which is why the permeable build matters. We do not promise permission-free work on any impermeable design.
Kettering has 26 conservation areas, including the town centre, Barton Seagrave, Burton Latimer, Geddington and Rothwell (Rutland Driveways, October 2026). If you live in one, check with the council before you commit to a surface.
Do I Need a Dropped Kerb?
If your drive crosses a pavement or verge to reach the road, yes. You need a dropped kerb approved by North Northamptonshire Council, and the work itself must be done to their requirements. Many of our Kettering enquiries need one, particularly where a front garden is being turned into parking for the first time.
Fees and application steps change, so we point you to the council’s current figures and flag the timing at the survey. Applying early avoids leaving a finished drive you cannot legally use.
How Long Does It Take, and How Long Does It Last?
Resin bound is safe to walk on in 4–6 hours and ready for vehicles in 24–48 hours, depending on temperature (BestBuilders, updated 22 August 2026). A typical 60 m² job takes 2–5 days (MyJobQuote, updated 6 October 2026).
Timing matters. Late spring or early autumn is usually best, as winter cold and rain can spoil the cure (MyJobQuote, updated 6 October 2026).
On a sound base, a properly installed resin bound drive lasts 15–25 years (BestBuilders, updated 22 August 2026).
Will It Fade, Go Yellow or Grow Weeds?
Choosing UV-stable resin stops yellowing. Upgrading costs £5–£12 per m² (BestBuilders, updated 22 August 2026), and we think it is worth it on any south-facing drive.
Weeds are the other common worry. A tightly bound surface laid on a solid base gives them nothing to root into. Trouble tends to start at failed edges or cracks, which is another reason the base and edging get so much attention.
Which Colour Suits a Red-Brick or Ironstone House?
Warm buffs, golden browns and soft gravel tones sit well against Kettering’s red brick, while earthy browns and ambers echo ironstone. Very pale or very dark finishes can fight with older frontages.
Photos and catalogue swatches rarely match what you see outside your own front door, which is why we lay samples against your frontage during the free survey. On newer estates such as Hanwood Park, where brickwork is often more uniform, you have more freedom to go for a contrasting tone.
Where We Work
We cover Kettering and the surrounding area, including Corby, Wellingborough, Rothwell, Desborough and Burton Latimer. Older terraces, ironstone cottages and newer estate homes each bring their own base and access challenges, and we plan around them.
